The Sierra Leone-United States Alumni Association: Building Bridges Through Shared Experiences
Our Mission
The Sierra Leone-United States Alumni Association (SLUSAA) is a beacon of collaboration and cultural exchange, bringing together individuals who have participated in U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs. These programs, dating back over three decades, have fostered deep people-to-people ties and nurtured mutual understanding between the two nations.
Thousands of Sierra Leoneans have benefited from these exchange programs, returning home with invaluable skills and experiences. They have become leaders in government, business, culture, and civil society, shaping the nation's development in profound ways.
SLUSAA's journey began as the International Visitors Council Sierra Leone (IVCSL). Recognizing the need to unite these diverse alumni, the association aimed to harness their collective expertise and resources for the benefit of their communities. Through projects, conferences, and mentorship initiatives, SLUSAA empowered future generations and encouraged participation in exchange programs.
However, the association faced temporary challenges that stalled its activities. In 2016, a wave of revitalization swept through the organization, leading to its renaming as the States Alumni Group Sierra Leone. Finally, in 2019, recognizing the crucial role of bilateral ties, the group adopted its current name: the Sierra Leone-United States Alumni Association (SLUSAA).
